In the Telangana State Bar Council Elections 2026, every advocate must follow the Minimum Preference Rule. Failure to follow this rule will result in the vote being rejected and not counted.
What Is the Minimum Preference Rule?
To make your vote valid, you must write at least FIVE (5) preferences on the ballot paper.
The correct and mandatory sequence is:
- ONE
- TWO
- THREE
- FOUR
- FIVE
All preferences must be written only in words and in the correct order.
Why Five Preferences Are Mandatory
The elections follow the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system.
This system requires a minimum chain of preferences to allow vote transfer.
- Less than five preferences → Vote invalid
- Correct chain of five → Vote remains active
Correct Way After First Preference
After writing ONE for your first-choice candidate:
- Continue with TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE
- Each preference must be given to a different candidate
- Do not skip any number in the sequence
Important Voter Instructions
- Use only the pen provided at the polling booth
- Do not write numbers (1, 2, 3)
- Write clearly and legibly
- Maintain an unbroken sequence
Election Snapshot
- Election Date: 30 January 2026
