In the Telangana State Bar Council Elections 2026, the FIRST preference is the most critical part of the ballot. A small mistake while marking the first preference can invalidate the entire vote.
The Golden Rule for First Preference
Your first preference must be written as:
ONE
✔ Written in words
✔ Written clearly and legibly
✔ Written against only ONE candidate
What Is NOT Allowed for First Preference
❌ Writing the digit 1
❌ Using tick marks (✓), crosses (✗), or dots
❌ Writing ONE for more than one candidate
❌ Using your own pen
Any of the above mistakes will cause the entire ballot paper to be rejected.
Correct Way to Continue After First Preference
After writing ONE:
- Continue with TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE
- Maintain the correct sequence
- Give each preference to a different candidate
- Minimum five preferences are mandatory
Why First Preference Is So Important
Under the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system:
- Your vote starts with the ONE preference
- From there, it may transfer to other candidates
- An incorrect first preference kills the vote immediately
