Ponnam Ashok Goud of Telangana Secures Supreme Court Order for Bar Council Elections
In a landmark development, Shri Ponnam Ashok Goud from Telangana has fought relentlessly and succeeded in ensuring that long-overdue Bar Council elections will finally be held.
The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, led by Justice Suryakanth and the bench, has ordered that Bar Council elections must be conducted on or before January 31, 2026.
Despite repeated attempts by the counsel for the Telangana Bar Council to seek an extension—first until February 2026 and then for one more month—the Court firmly ruled that:
• ✅ Elections cannot be postponed indefinitely.
• ✅ There is no impediment for any State Bar Council to conduct elections.
• ✅ State Bars are free to proceed independently without waiting for directions from the Bar Council of India.
• ✅ The ongoing verification process cannot be used as an excuse to delay democratic elections.
The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh also affirmed that any state bar council is free to conduct elections as per the Supreme Court’s mandate.
This decisive judgment ensures that democracy within the legal fraternity is upheld and strengthened.
⚖️ All hail the Supreme Court of India — the guardian of justice and democracy.
✨ Credit goes to the tireless efforts of Ponnam Ashok Goud, who fought this battle to restore fairness and transparency in the functioning of bar councils.
